FG to Support Imo in Infrastructure Development, as Buhari Commends Uzodimma for Providing Democratic Dividends *Blames PDP Govt for Poor Infrastructure Development, Insecurity *Says His Administration not Promoted

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the federal government will support Imo State in her infrastructure development. He also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for providing needed democratic dividends to the people of the State not withstanding limited resources.


The President who spoke in Owerri, capital of Imo State Tuesday after inaugurating three projects constructed by the State Government. The projects are the 35 kilometers Owerri-Orlu road, the Owerri-Okigwe road (phase one) and the Imo State House of Assembly Complex, Owerri.


Addressing the people of the South East at the Imo State Government House, Buhari also blamed past administration of the People Democratic Party (PDP) for the providing necessary infrastructure to the country.


According to him, between 1999 to 2015 when the economy of the country was bouyant with about 2.5mpd of crude yet there was no significant development in security, power, railway and the second Niger bridge was not done.


The President also expressed dismay that despite the fact that his administration has done extremely well, yet people who are supposed to say it now are not saying it. "I don't know why."


Buhari while expressing delight for coming to the State for the second time in one year as his first visit under the current administration was in September 9, 2021 said "a good road deserves a second passage."


"Uzodimma has made good roads one of his priorities, I commend him for utilizing the limited resources for the development of his people. The roads will serve as stimulants to the local communities in the State as they would use it to improve on their agricultural production," he said.


The president however, described the effort of the governor as "infrastructure revolution."


The President who arrived Imo State through the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport at about 10.45am and was received by the State Governor and some members of the Imo State Executive Council inspite of the threat imposed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).


Shortly after the brief airport ceremony, Mr. President headed straight to Orlu with a Chopper to inaugurate the Owerri-Orlu road, as well as to Amaraku in Isiala Mbano local government to inaugurate part of the Owerri-Okigwe road and the refurbished Imo State House of Assembly Complex, Owerri.


However, citizens of the State strictly complied with the IPOB's directive of sit-at-home order, such move did not stop the State government and Mr. President from performing the inauguration of the listed projects.


IPOB had issued an order warning citizens from the South East to stay-at-home in an effort to give solidarity to IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu who was to be in court on the same day in continuation of his case of alleged treason preferred against him by the federal government.


Welcoming the President, Governor Uzodimma said that his administration has provided about 105 roads across the State since he came to power about two and half years.


The governor thanked the president for his look love for the State especially since his administration, adding that Me. President had shown his magnanimity towards the State by approving the upgrade of the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education to a Universiy as well as the Federal Medical Center, Owerri as a teaching hospital to the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Medical College.


He also commended President Buhari for his prompt intervention to curb insecurity situation in the State.


In his remarks, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor George Obiozor reiterated the commitment of Ndigbo for a united Nigerian project, in as much as "we seek justice, fairness and equity in the country."
