The Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged Nigerians against supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) for reelection because the weight on the nation will be too great to bear.
Atiku claimed he is the country's needed unifier in a personal message to mark the eve of the official launch of his presidential campaign in Akwa Ibom State, Uyo.
The former vice president gave Nigerians the option to participate in his campaign in person or watch as a family on television.
"I believe that you're here (in Uyo) because we share the same opinion that every additional day of the APC administration beyond May 29 next year will be a weight too heavy for our country to bear," said Atiku, who is starting the campaign with a divided party. You are here because, like me, you think Nigeria deserves a leader who is ready to take the helm right away. You think that in our march toward peace and prosperity, Nigeria needs a UNIFIER and a leadership that doesn't leave anyone behind. You are present because you consider this to be the time when God intends for this nation to once again rise.
"Tomorrow, on October 10, I will be gathering in Uyo with other PDP leaders for the flag-off of our presidential campaign.
The three-time candidate for president stated, "You can participate personally or invite relatives and friends over to join you in viewing it live on TV."
The PDP has not yet found a solution to its leadership dilemma because Iyorchia Ayu, the party's national chairman, has refused to step down to make room for a chairman from the South West.
According to reports, Nyesom Wike's campaign would uphold its promise to abstain from the presidential election until Ayu has left.
Hotels are fully booked for the event, which has set Uyo in a frenzy.
