Crises have hit the South-West zone of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as its chairman, Mr. Ademola Ayoade has been fired.
Ayoade's dismissal was reported in a statement that Mr. Babatunde Oke, the party's zone secretary, made available to journalists in Ibadan on Thursday.
The party said that the removal of the chairman was done legally and that it was required because the internal dispute system that had been used to warn Ayode had failed.
The decision was made after a vote of no confidence was voted on him, according to the communique, which was signed by all of the party's chairmen in the six states of the South-West and some party officials during a zonal meeting in Ibadan.
They added that the procedure for removing the chairman began in ward 4 of the Ibarapa East Local Government of Oyo State and that it was completed there before the decision was sent to the state leadership, where he was removed from his position as chairman.
The statement further stated that some leaders in the Zone as well as the party chairmen from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti made the decision.
"On October 12, 2023, the South-West Executives of our Party convened in Ibadan with some leaders in the zone to discuss some key matters affecting the next general elections and the South-West interest," the communiqué read.
"Having received copies of the resolution removing Prince Ademola Ayoade from his position as South-West Chairman by his ward, local government, and state, the council thought it prudent to ratify the decision on the removal of the former zonal chairman and on the same note approved the nomination of the formal South-West ex-officio from Oyo State as Acting Zonal Chairman as well as that of Honorable Ayobami Idowu as Sou" The National Working Committee of our Party NNPP and other pertinent parties will shortly be informed of the decision.
