As the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) announced the timetable for the 2024 governorship election in Imo State,
a former speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Kelechi Nwagwu has
expressed his interest to contest the position on the platform of Labour Party
(LP).
Addressing the party executive at their State secretariat,
Nwagwu pointed out that he has garnered the requisite experience and political
exposure to pilot the affairs of the State to greatness and place the State on
the map of development and secured society.
Describing the presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Peter Obi as a phenomenon who has giving the party a new face by triggering it to Nigerians who were eager to have a third force to engineer the betterment of the people of the country, he had no other better option than to join hands with him (Obi) to reset Imo State to greatness.
“There is no other time to run for the governor than now. I have seen how the State has degenerated, I have seen the pains of the people of the state, and how blood is flowing, poverty, hunger, insecurity and every bad thing is in place. In fact we need an experienced person who knows the job to come and rescue the State.
That’s why I’m here. I have come to reset, transform
the State. I have come to industrialize the local governments. I have come to
turn things around. That is my desire. I have come to turn Imo State to holiday
destination of every sort. I have come to make life more comfortable to the
people. I have come to bring back the State back to the glorious days of the
80s, where happiness, joy, peace and security reigned.
“We are not joking about this. We are going to match
to Douglas House together. Nothing can stop this force because it means well
for the State, it means well for the youths, it means well for the adults. So
we are here to ensure that this party grows from strength to strength. We must
make everything possible to deliver Mr. Peter Obi before our own election.
“I enjoin the electorate to listen to our programmes,
to look well on the programmes of those who claim to be the best. We want to
think out of the box and de-emphasis money politics and focus on the quality
agenda and programmes based on individual capabilities and experience,” he said.
