A Labour Party (LP) Governorship aspirant for Imo State,
Sir Basil Udochukwu Maduka has sworn to make the State the envy of other States
of the Federation if elected Governor in the November 2023 governorship
election in the State, because I will provide quality leadership to our people.
Sir Maduka, also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Virgin Group, an Oil and Gas conglomerate based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, disclosed this while recently fielding questions from editors at his Abuja residence.
The former Coordinator of Ezinihitte Development
Centre, Imo State said he would make Imo State an economic hub of the Eastern
region, stressing that within two years of his administration, Imo would become
the destination and business centre of Nigeria as he is going to flood the
major cities with industries and factories that would be viable to the development
of those areas.
He stated further that he would turn Okigwe, Orlu
and Owerri zones into industrial zones for the massive production of goods and
services for the benefit of the people and for export.
On youths' restiveness and insecurity in the
State, Sir Maduka who is a knight of the Anglican Communion noted that the
major cause of insecurity and restiveness in the land is poverty. He says, “ I will create jobs for the
youths and keep them busy and by so doing insecurity and restiveness would
vanish overnight.”
“These youths finish school and roam the streets
without jobs. They engage in criminalities because they are not busy. Once
government performs its responsibility of providing jobs for the youths,
criminality will be reduced to the barest minimum.
“There are no factories or companies attracted
in Imo State to engage these boys. That is the Crux of the matter. My
government will reduce the incident of unemployment in the society by building
more industries,” Maduka said.
He spoke of the need to put on the ground an enabling
environment for the expatriates and his government to partner with for the development of the State.
