Imo State Labour Party governorship aspirant, Sir Basil Maduka, has revealed why he is the best choice among the contestants vying to replace Governor Hope Uzodimma in the November 11, 2023 polls.
In an interaction with journalists, Maduka, born in June 1967 in Akpodim, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, said the major problem faced by Imo State is underdevelopment due to absence of industries.
According to the Chairman of Virgin Group, an international integrated Oil and Gas company with operations in Nigeria, United Arab Emirates and USA, the industrial expertise that led to the success of his business empire in the last thirty years will be employed in rapid industrialization of Imo State as he is highly exposed in economic dynamics, if he is elected governor.
Citing his experience in the petroleum industry Maduka, a Knight of the Anglican Church and notable philanthropist, assured that the vast deposits of crude oil and gas in Imo State which have been under-exploited over the decades, will be tapped into for industrial revolution that will place Imo and the South East at par with other advanced oil-producing nations like United Arab Emirates and USA that are now the envy of the world.
He regrets that lack of political will coupled with systemic collapse due to unmitigated corruption, have been the major impediments to the socio-economic development of the state.
It would be recalled that the principal of Basil Maduka Mandate Movement (BAMM) is on record for philanthropic activities such as youth and women empowerment, skills acquisition and scholarship programmes.
Speaking about Maduka, a stakeholder in Imo Labour Party, Ukachukwu Amadi said, "The Basil Maduka we know, is coming with economic revolution to industrialize Imo State"
Meanwhile, investigations reveal that Owerri Senatorial District where Maduka hails from, and Okigwe Senatorial District, are most favoured to produce the next governor of the state as Orlu Senatorial District where incumbent governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma hails from, will record 20 years in Douglas House by January, 2024 compared to Okigwe's 4 years under former governor Ikedi Ohakim and only 7 months for Owerri Senatorial District under immediate past governor Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha since the inception of Nigeria's nascent democracy in 1999.
