Abure Remains Labour Party National Chairman As Court Grants Stay Of Execution *Tribunal Adjourns Session, Set to Rule on Obi’s Request for Live Streaming of Proceedings on Monday

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja on Friday May 19, granted the application of stay of execution filed by Julius Abure, the National Chairman of Labour Party and the party pending their appeal for the ruling.

In the case between factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa’s group and Abure, the LP lawyers confronted the Claimants (Apapa)'s lawyer who was opposing the oral application for stay since all evidence of a valid and subsisting appeal was before the Court.

Eventually, being thoroughly boxed to a corner, the Judge succumbed and granted Stay Pending Appeal.

Congratulations to Abure and Labour Party

PEPT Adjourns Obi's Request To Live Stream Court Proceedings

Meanwhile, the five-member Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, has decided to defer its ruling on the application made by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) for the live streaming of court proceedings.

The announcement was made just moments ago following the adoption of processes by the lawyers representing the parties involved.

Awa Kalu (SAN), the lawyer representing Obi and the LP, passionately urged the court to grant the application in the interest of the public’s right to access information.

Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun (SAN), representing Bola Tinubu, and Kashim Shettima, and Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), presented their counter affidavits and pleaded with the court to reject the application. They argued that the application lacked merit and would serve as a distraction to the court.

The court has adjourned further pre-hearing sessions in the petition until Saturday, where more deliberations will take place.
