As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the list of candidates submitted by their various political parties in line with the timetable, governor Hope Uzodimma who is seeking a second term from his All Progressives Congress (APC) submitted the name of the State Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu as a Place-holder for his running mate.
Nwosu comes from the same local government, Oru East with governor Uzodimma.
By this development, it confirms the rumour that the governor may not field the current deputy governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, who hails from Ikeduru, the same local government of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
There is indication that Uzodimma has anxiously directed his searchlight to Mbaise axis, an area that is currently seen as the 'beautiful bride' considering their population and political sagacity.
Political watchers are still confused how on earth no governorship candidate has not yet emerged from Mbaise. However, the hope for a possible governorship candidate coming out from Mbaise is not ruled out since a strong contender is contesting the outcome of the primary election of the Labour Party (LP).
Mbaise has been a deciding factor in the Imo State governorship as their population out number the other six local government areas put together in Owerri zone (Imo East).
The emergent of the other governorship candidates from different political parties seem not to bother governor Uzodimma because the area he is usually afraid of if there is a credible candidate is yet to get one. (Waiting for the courts to decide).
According to INEC guidelines, the final list of candidates would be released by June 9, 2023, therefore, it is not yet uhuru for those whose names are in the current list. Final list may emerge as the case may be.
