It is a pity that many Nigerians especially the political bring bad reputation to this country through their alleged forgery of election results, age declaration, educational certificates and so on.
Forgery of any sort is criminal in nature and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stipulates various degrees of punishment against forgery. While some unlucky perpetrators have gone in for it, others continue to pride that the system cannot do anything to them.
Mmesoma forged result to be the highest JAMB scorer just as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu allegedly rigged election to be declared president with the highest number of votes.
Social Activist, Aisha Yesufu pounders that punishing one (rightfully so) and leaving the other is to send a disastrous message that forgery is not the crime but the level at which it is done.
She says that there can never be justification for a crime, reminding those defending Tinubu to be wary, noting "next time you want to defend Tinubu’s rigging, ask yourself how you felt with Mmesoma’s forgery."
Another anonymous writer says "She's only proving all of (adults and leaders) right that at least she has learned something from us.... where you have in a country from president to governor's, assembly members, Reps, ministers, perm-secs, contractors, business men and women etc etc, even INEC as scientific forgers..."
Finally, as Mmesonma is punished, others including politicians who have been hitherto accused of one form of forgery or the other should also be prosecuted. Forgery is forgery, and they are all punishable under the law.
