Assa Gas Processing Plant: Traditional Rulers In Ohaji/Egbema LGA Make Case for Employment of Their Youths

The traditional rulers in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State have appealed to the authorities in charges of the  Assa Gas Processing Facilities comprising of Anoh PFT, AGPC Gas Plant, Seplat and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to include the employment of their qualified youths in the facilities.


Speaking at the side of the Presidential Commissioning of three critical gas infrastructure projects in Assa Community, Eze Emmanuel Aso, the Odoziobdo 11 of Assa in Ohaji/Egbema LGA, while expressing happiness for the citing of such project in his community, he urged the authorities to look into the employment of their youths.


According to him, it is a thing of joy that among all the areas in the world, my community is giving this gift, the gas production project, one of the best in Africa, we are grateful that the commissioning of the God-giving gas project is located in my community, Assa.




"We want to express that the youths of our community are happy because, this project will enhance structural development in our area. It will also create employment opportunities to our youths, while Investors will come in to access the business opportunities and develop my area. 


"In terms of giving employment opportunities to my people, we are not happy that our youths who are qualified in various aspects are not giving employment yet. I had it in my address but I was not allowed to read it, however, I have met with the Managing Director of NNPCL, AGPC and Seplat and they have assured me of a meeting with them, I am sure I will bring this issue to their notice," he said.


Also speaking in the same vein, Eze Dr. Matthew Chiedozie Nwokoma of Umuokanne expressed satisfaction that the project was able to be completed in 11 months, adding "It can only be in Ohaji where such huge project would be completed in record time without any community or youth unrest. 


"We wanted to send a message that those people who felt that Ohaji is a restive place to change their mindset. We are peaceful people and we have proved it. We thank the Almighty God for making it possible. We also thank President Tinubu and Governor Hope Uzodimma for living upto expectations by promising and fulfilling it. 


"We want to assure Mr. President that Ohaji youths are peaceful and accommodating, that is why they protected this place and allowed the project to go on smoothly. As for giving employment to our youths, we are going to talk to the authorities to accommodate our youths in their employment scheme. In Ohaji, we have youths who are well educated in all fields and we will be glad to have some of them employed in this project.


Another traditional ruler, Eze Emmanuel Odunze of Obiti community appealed to the management of the companies in their area and Imo State government to look into the employment of their youths in the companies. 


He said, "for now, it is people from outside our areas are being engaged, let them make use of our people, particularly the qualified youths to be part of their work schedule."
