Why I Disagreed With Atiku's Camp Over Vice President Slot - Peter Obi Speaks Out

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi has clarified why he distanced himself from a proposed political alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to a report, Obi addressed the controversy after it emerged that Atiku’s team had offered him the vice-presidential slot as part of a merger plan.

The idea of Obi playing second fiddle stirred tension among his supporters, who believed such a suggestion undermined his political mission. Reacting to the reports, Obi made it clear that his interest in a coalition had nothing to do with securing positions or personal advancement.

He explained that his political drive is rooted in solving real societal issues, such as hunger, poverty, and access to healthcare. “My coalition is against suffering, not for power. Politics should be about serving the people and solving their problems, not seeking positions,” he stated.

Obi reiterated that his priorities are centered on the nation’s children and their future, particularly in the realm of education, rather than political ambition.
