Ned Nwoko’s Request For Creation Of Anioma State Instead of Joining Hands For Sixth State For South East Ridiculous - Mike Ahamba

A Constitutional Lawyer and a former presidential nominee of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference, Chief Mike Ahamba, SAN has described as ridiculous the call for the creation of Anioma State from the present Delta North zone of Delta State by Senator Ned Nwoko.

Ahamba who proposed the creation of another State for the South east region to make it at par with the other geopolitical regions of the country at the conference, noted that the good and proper thing the current national assembly should do now is to create another state for the South east to make it the sixth State for justice and fairness.

He said, “I listened to Senator Ned Nwoko talking about the creation of Anioma State, which is in Delta State and the South south region instead of collaborating with his other Igbo brothers in the senate from the South east to get the sixth State for the region. Such call is divisive and does not promote unity, justice and fairness in the country.

“My view on his demand is that he is not being fair because if Anioma state is created from part of the present Delta State, it would still mean that the South south has more states, that is seven. Delta State is in the South south and not in the South east. The issue is that one more State should be created in the South east to make it six. If you now make Delta North a State that means South south has seven States and the South east still remain at five.

“I don’t know what the senators from the South east are doing and allow Senator Ned Nwoko to make such a divisive demand. How can one man, Senator Ned Nwoko take what is given to the South east to take it to Delta North. We know Delta North is Igbo speaking but it is still in the South south region,” he said.

Ahamba maintained that the idea of the new State should come from the present South east region as presently constituted, insisting that, by so doing, what the National conference of 2014 decided would have been satisfied.

According to him, that memorandum was under my initiative as a presidential nominee. I initiated that South east must get an additional state before any other state is created anywhere. I had argued that leaving South east at five states makes it marginalized because of the civil war. And the national conference passed the resolution that one additional state must be created in the South east to make it at par with other geopolitical zones of the country. So how can one man now take what is given to the South east to Delta in the South south and our senators are there keeping quite?
