Wicked, Irresponsible — Gov Soludo, Others React To Obiano’s Death Rumour

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that former Governor Chief Willie Obiano has died.

In a statement released on Friday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described reports that Obiano had passed away in a London hospital as “malicious and utterly false.”

The governor confirmed that he had personally spoken with Obiano, who is alive and in good health.

“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said.

He urged media practitioners, particularly online publishers, to uphold journalistic ethics by verifying information through official channels before publication.

“The spread of unverified death rumours is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust,” he added.

Soludo also called on the public to disregard the trending report, assuring them that Obiano remains hale and hearty.

He extended his best wishes to the former governor for continued strength, peace, and a long, fulfilling life.

Obiano Not Dead: Former Governor Confirms He’s Well

Amid circulating rumours about the death of the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano (Akpokuo Dike), community leader Chief Alex Onukwue has dismissed the claims as baseless, describing them as the work of Obiano’s enemies.

Onukwue, former President of the Aguleri Town Union — Obiano’s hometown — spoke to newsmen on Friday, saying he had personally spoken with Obiano, who confirmed that he is “hale and hearty.”

He said the false reports were a deliberate attempt to tarnish Obiano’s reputation:

“This is a calculated attempt by enemies to malign my brother, my friend, and my fellow indigene of Aguleri. I just spoke with him on phone now, and he confirmed he is hale and hearty. These false rumours must not go unpunished.”

Onukwue, who also serves as the National President of the Old Anambra District Development Association (OADDA), expressed disappointment that some individuals would go so far as to declare Obiano dead without verification, calling it a sign of ill-will against him.

His statement aligns with remarks from Obiano’s former Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, who also confirmed that the former governor is alive and well, adding that the social media claims about his death are completely unfounded.
