The Owerri senatorial district, spanning Imo State’s vibrant political landscape, has long been a crucible of ambition, service, and community-focused leadership. As the 2027 election approaches, discussions about who is best positioned to advance the district’s development agenda have intensified. Among the candidates generating attention is Prince Alex Mbata, popularly known as PAM PAM, whose profile as an administrator, entrepreneur, and community advocate has sparked conversations about suitability, readiness, and vision for the Imo North senatorial future.
In the story of Owerri Zone’s future, the true measure of leadership lies in service that uplifts every neighbor, every family, and every small business. Prince Alex Mbata embodies a philanthropy-first approach to leadership - one that sees politics as a platform to amplify generosity, turn resources into real-world relief, and build a more just, hopeful community for Imo State.
Prince Alex Mbata’s career reflects a blend of public service and civic engagement especially having held the position of Governing Council Chairman of the Imo State University, Owerri. With experience spanning administrative, philanthropy, and business, Mbata has cultivated a reputation for pragmatic problem-solving and a grounded approach to policy.
He championed the most formidable empowerment in the history of Imo State in initiatives where the people of Owerri senatorial zone were provided with incentives to be self-employed, improve on their skills and trade, and others given the opportunity to start businesses of their choice. That was the mother-of-all empowerment. Such magnanimity of this man has not been equaled by any politician or businessman in the state.
The Ndubisi Kanu Square, former Hero’s Square witnessed the best of engagement in the name of empowerment for youths, women and all cadre of people from the nine local government areas of Owerri senatorial zone. In the realm of public service, and administration, Mbata can have it as the man who “knows the road” and can champion larger development of the zone if he gets the opportunity. His admirers argue that his hands-on experience navigating complex governance structures positions him to translate broad policy goals into actionable senatorial work.
Owerri Zone faces a set of opportunities and challenges - economic diversification, value-chain development, security, and educational empowerment among them, and it is very obvious that going by his antecedent, Prince Mbata is committed to tackle some of the challenges as well as improving on the opportunities to make the zone thrive again. In his avowed determination to make an impact, his inclusive mindset gears towards developing partnerships that can mobilize resources for smallholders, artisans, and local enterprises to develop. Because he knows the way, hence it would be his usual intention to fly beyond limit.
It is also in the interest of the people to elect someone as their senator who understands the local economy’s rhythms and can craft legislation and secure federal support that aligns with the district’s unique needs. For Mbata, this translates into a platform centered on job creation, infrastructure maintenance, and investment in human capital which is not new to him.
In as much as a compelling senatorial platform often blends policy priorities with collaborative governance and legislation, therefore, Prince Mbata who already is aware of the volume of expectations for a senator for the zone must have prepared himself to encourage investment in manufacturing, agro-processing, and tech-enabled entrepreneurship within Owerri Zone through vibrant legislation and lobbying.
Such other key benefits like: Infrastructure and accessibility by advocating for targeted federal interventions in roads, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions to improve connectivity and service delivery of the people. Not forgetting to assist in voicing out as a way of creating required attention towards curbing insecurity and instilling social harmony, promoting community-based safety programs and proactive engagement with State and federal agencies to safeguard citizens and businesses.
Mbata’s career blends governance with a deep commitment to social betterment. Beyond policy proposals, his work reflects sustained acts of service: supporting healthcare access for vulnerable communities, funding educational initiatives, and enabling entrepreneurship among youths and women. He is described as a leader who prioritizes people over politics, listening first, then acting with urgency to close gaps that divide communities.
Another area I believe he can do better considering his posture as one that wants to create an enviable record is towards youth and women empowerment. As he sets to implement mentorship, award of scholarship, and enterprise development schemes to broaden opportunities for under-represented groups. Again, Prince Mbata’s approach can prioritize partnerships with state and local government, business stakeholders, and civil society to ensure that policies are practical, locally owned, and sustainable. These aspects have been lacking previously.
In any political contest, trust remains a central issue. Prince Mbata’s reputation for accountability, transparency, and responsiveness to constituents can be an advantage. He is liquid and therefore, has the slim quest to amass public funds. Judging from his noble background as a successful business entrepreneur, his major interest would be to render service to the people of Owerri senatorial zone.
Owerri Zone’s electoral fortunes are influenced by party dynamics, therefore, his cynosure with people can turn into a coalition-building, making way for all stakeholders to give him support. However, his path to the Senate in 2027 would hinge on his party affiliation, coupled with the fact that in 2023 he was the fly bearer of the running All Progressives Congress (APC), and if he is lucky to emerge as their candidate in 2027 he would be a candidate to beat. His cordial affiliation with building broad-based coalitions with party leaders, traditional institutions, and civil society groups; the youths and women would indeed be an added advantage to him.
Mbata’s compassionate leadership frame positions him not just as a candidate, but as a steward of communal well-being. By centering philanthropy-infused governance - where generosity translates into policy, and policy translates into improved lives - the Owerri Zone can move toward a future where development is measured by the well-being of its people.
Prince Alex Mbata presents a profile of leadership, strategic thinking, and practical experience that the electorate may find convincing for Owerri Zone’s senatorial seat in 2027. He has shown commitment to development, coupled with a focused vision for economic diversification, infrastructure, and social empowerment, aligns with the aspirations of communities seeking effective representation at the federal level. As with any candidate, the ultimate judgment will rest on the clarity of his policy propositions, his ability to mobilize broad support, and his demonstration of accountability and results.
