The integrity of party politics in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area is facing a serious test as troubling allegations emerge from within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reports of clandestine meetings between some ADC leaders and an APC House of Representatives aspirant have sparked outrage, raising fundamental questions about loyalty, accountability, and the true direction of the party.
If these claims hold weight, then what is unfolding is not mere political maneuvering, it is a calculated betrayal.
At the center of the controversy is the growing perception that certain individuals within the ADC are deliberately engineering the emergence of a weak and ineffective aspirant, one lacking the political strength, grassroots structure, and strategic capacity required to contest and win a general election. This move appears less about democratic choice and more about creating a convenient pathway for a preferred candidate in the APC to thrive unchallenged.
Such a strategy, if proven, is both dangerous and disgraceful.
It is particularly disheartening given that the ADC is not lacking in capable hands. The party boasts aspirants who are not only passionate but also equipped with the competence, credibility, and resilience needed to confront the opposition head-on. These individuals are ready to campaign vigorously, mobilize supporters, and defend the party’s mandate across all phases of the electoral process. Yet, they are being overshadowed by a scheme that prioritizes personal alliances over party success.
This is the very definition of internal sabotage. When leaders begin to act in ways that undermine their own platform, they erode the trust of party members and diminish the confidence of the electorate. Politics, at its core, is built on principles of representation, fairness, and collective interest. Any deviation from these values weakens not just a party, but the democratic process itself.
The people of Ihitte/Uboma deserve a credible contest of ideas, not a manipulated outcome. Party members deserve transparency, not secrecy. Aspirants deserve a level playing field, not a pre-determined script.
The ADC must, therefore, act decisively. Silence or inaction in the face of these allegations will only deepen suspicion and further damage the party’s reputation. There is an urgent need for internal accountability, open dialogue, and a recommitment to the principles upon which the party stands. Anything less would amount to surrender.
This is a defining moment for the ADC in Ihitte/Uboma. The choice is clear: confront internal decay and rebuild trust, or allow selfish interests to drag the party into irrelevance.
History will remember which path was taken.
