Gov Otti Empowers Over 17,000 Abia Farmers Friday - Good Leadership And Governance Series With Dr. Charles Ogugbuaja (GLGSWDCO 46)

In his determination to tackle hunger and ensure food basket, food security and sufficiency abound in Abia State, His Excellency, Gov Alex Otti, OFR, will today, Friday, July 10, empower more than 17,000 functional farmers in the state.


The Executive Governor will do so  during the flag -off Farmers' Input Support Programme (FISP), at the Umuahia Township Stadium, capital city of Umuahia, at 9a.m. prompt.


The initiative is also, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods of the farmers across the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.


This is contained in a statement endorsed by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, and made available to the GLGSWDCO Thursday night.


The statement read: "The Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, is set to officially launch the Farmers' Inputs Support Programme, a landmark initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, enhancing food security, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.


"With the theme, "Improved Inputs, Increased Yields, Sustainable Prosperity for Farmers," the programme will empower over 17,000 farmers with critical agricultural inputs to increase crop yields, improve farm productivity, and drive sustainable economic growth in the agricultural sector."


Prince Kanu, continued: "The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, will officially flag off the Farmers' Inputs Support Programme, reaffirming his administration's unwavering commitment to transforming agriculture into a major driver of economic prosperity, job creation, and food sufficiency in Abia State."


He hinted: "The programme will be hosted by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, whose ministry has continued to champion policies and initiatives that support farmers and strengthen the state's agricultural value chain."


Inviting all the stakeholders in the agriculture chain to the event, Prince Kanu informed, "Members of the farming community, agricultural stakeholders, development partners, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the general public are cordially invited to witness this significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of Abia State's agricultural sector."


WRITER'S NOTE: This is another quantum leap being initiated and set to be executed fully by His Excellency, Gov Alex Otti, OFR, to ensure that the people of Abia and beyond do not die of hunger and starvation. 


This move, definitely, will lead to serving local consumption and export for revenue value chain. God bless Gov Otti, for this well- thought out programme to quench hunger.
