The people of Onicha Amairi in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State witnessed a historic milestone on Monday, June 29, 2026, as Senator Bright Nwanne formally handed over the ultra-modern Isi Nze Nwamara Motor Park to the Imo State government for public use, reaffirming his commitment to sustainable development and the collective welfare of his people.
The commissioning and official handover of the landmark facility represented far more than the unveiling of a modern transport terminal. It marked the emergence of a major commercial and economic hub strategically designed to stimulate trade, create jobs, improve transportation, strengthen security, and position Onicha Amairi in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government as a gateway connecting communities within Imo State and major cities across Nigeria.
The event attracted an impressive gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, transport operators, business owners, youth organisations, women groups, and community stakeholders, who described the project as one of the most significant privately funded infrastructural investments ever undertaken in the Mbaise region.
Commissioning the project, the Executive Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Chief Chinedu Nwachukwu, applauded Senator Nwanne for what he described as an extraordinary demonstration of visionary and selfless leadership.
According to the council chairman, genuine leadership is measured not by political promises but by enduring investments that improve the quality of life of ordinary citizens. He described the Motor Park as a transformational project that would reshape the economic landscape of the area while inspiring future generations of leaders to embrace people-centred development.
He prayed for God's continued protection, wisdom, and blessings upon Senator Nwanne and his family, and appealed to the traditional institution and the people of area to safeguard the facility through peace, unity, and collective ownership.
Nwachukwu explained that the motor park is strategically positioned to serve as a major transportation hub connecting commuters to Owerri, Aba, Umuahia, Enugu, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, and several other destinations across the country. He expressed confidence that the facility would attract reputable transport companies, encourage private investment, expand commercial activities, and significantly strengthen the local economy.
He further noted that the park's proximity to the newly established Egbuka Police Area Command, also single handedly built and donated by Senator Nwanne, would provide enhanced security for commuters, businesses, investors, and visitors while helping to curb criminal activities in the area.
Representing Senator Nwanne at the ceremony, his younger brother, Mr. Harold Mbanefo Nwanne, disclosed that the project extends far beyond the concept of a conventional motor park.
Harold Nwanne also revealed that the Egbuka Police Area Command, serving both Ahiazu Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Aboh Mbaise Local Government Areas and solely funded by Senator Nwanne, has already been completed, commissioned, and handed over to the appropriate authorities. He further disclosed that a world-class civic centre comprising a conference hall with a seating capacity of over 1,000 people and another hall accommodating more than 600 people, also single-handedly built by the senator, is awaiting official inauguration.
He conveyed Senator Nwanne's appreciation to the Executive Chairman for honouring the occasion and requested that his gratitude be extended to Governor Hope Uzodimma for supporting developmental initiatives across Imo State.
Describing Senator Nwanne as a humble, compassionate, and accessible leader, Harold urged the people of Onicha Amairi to embrace the project as a collective heritage, stressing that the facility was built not only for the present generation but as a lasting legacy for generations yet unborn.
Community leaders who spoke during the ceremony paid glowing tributes to the senator's enduring commitment to grassroots development.
Chief Chilaka Eze Nwanne described the project as a monumental achievement deserving the protection and support of every progressive son and daughter of the community, while Nze Samuel Ndukaile thanked God for making the historic event possible and expressed optimism that the facility would become a catalyst for long-term economic prosperity.
Delivering one of the goodwill messages, chairman of Eke-Oha Onicha market association, Anyanwu Daniel Amauchechukwu described the commissioning of Isi Nze Nwamara Motor Park as the dawn of a new economic era for Onicha Amairi and the Eke-Oha Onicha commercial corridor.
He commended Senator Bright Nwanne for making remarkable personal sacrifices to deliver infrastructure capable of transforming the economic fortunes of the community.
According to him, the vision behind the project extends beyond transportation, as the facility has the potential to evolve into a modern commercial destination capable of positioning Eke-Oha Onicha market among the foremost trading centres in Mbaise and the South-East.
He outlined measures necessary for the effective management and sustainability of the facility, including the provision of reliable water supply, transparent allocation of lock-up shops to genuine entrepreneurs, employment opportunities for youths, and efficient sanitation, maintenance, and security systems.
He further observed that the facility holds enormous potential to generate employment across transportation, logistics, ticketing, hospitality, commerce, facility management, sanitation, and private security, thereby reducing unemployment, stimulating local enterprise, and promoting economic stability.
Anyanwu also appealed to traditional rulers, political leaders, transport unions, traders, youths, and other stakeholders to work collectively to protect the facility and maximise the economic opportunities it offers.
He further urged Senator Bright Nwanne to encourage members of the E-Dey Work Ministry to make full use of the newly commissioned motor park instead of parking vehicles along public roads, noting that indiscriminate roadside parking has contributed to traffic congestion and avoidable accidents in the area.
He maintained that transparency, discipline, accountability, and effective management would ensure that Isi Nze Nwamara Park becomes a model transportation terminal capable of attracting sustained investment and accelerating economic growth across Mbaise and the wider South-East.
The colourful ceremony drew a remarkable assembly of traditional rulers, political stakeholders, transport operators, market women, youth organisations, community leaders, and residents, all of whom described the project as a legacy investment that will continue to serve present and future generations.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Nze Celestine Ihuoma, Nze Lewis Nwoso, and several distinguished sons and daughters of Onicha Amairi, who commended Senator Bright Nwanne for demonstrating that the greatest legacy of leadership lies in vision, service, sacrifice, and sustainable development.
As the ceremony concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and continued progress, one message resonated throughout the community: Isi Nze Nwamara Park is far more than a motor park. It is a symbol of visionary leadership, a catalyst for economic transformation, and an enduring legacy dedicated to public service and the prosperity of generations to come.
