By Amby Uneze

The Ezinwanne Leadership Foundation will hold its 2nd Public Lecture Series and Award Presentation on Friday, 23rd October 2026, at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri, by 10:00 a.m.

The announcement was made by the Foundation's founder, Chief C.O.C. Akaolisa, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Imo State.

Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri (SAN) will deliver the lecture, titled "Democratic Governance in Nigeria: The Challenge of Electoral Credibility."

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will be the Special Guest.

The theme speaks to one of the most pressing questions in Nigeria's political life. Credible elections are the foundation of legitimate governance, and when citizens trust the process that brings leaders to office, they are more likely to support and hold accountable the institutions those leaders run. The lecture is expected to examine the obstacles to electoral credibility in Nigeria and the steps needed to strengthen public confidence in the ballot. With the INEC Chairman present, stakeholders will also have a rare chance to engage directly with the leadership of the country's electoral umpire.

Awards

The second part of the programme will honour public office holders and citizens whose conduct the Foundation considers worthy of emulation. Awards will go to: Best Performing Senator from Imo State; Best Performing House of Representatives Member; Best Performing House of Assembly Members, one from each of the three zones of the state; Best Performing Local Government Council Chairmen, one from each zone Dignified Women Leadership Award, to be presented to the wife of the Imo State Governor.

Other prominent persons will receive the Outstanding Support for Democratic Governance Award and the Outstanding Legislative Performance Award.

Special recognition will also go to Odimma Orsu and the Orsuihiteukwa Security Team, who will jointly receive a Special Award for Dogged Support for Security in Orsu Local Government Area. The award acknowledges the contribution of community-based security efforts to peace and stability at the grassroots.

The Foundation says the awards are meant to encourage credible leadership by rewarding those who serve well and inspiring others to follow.

About the Foundation

The Ezinwanne Leadership Foundation was established to, among other things: encourage and promote leadership excellence; advocate credible elections that will produce credible leaders; educate the people on the qualities of good leadership; and engage stakeholders at all levels of leadership to advance selfless, people-oriented leadership.

The public lecture series and annual awards are its main platforms for pursuing these goals, bringing scholars, public officials, civil society and community leaders into one conversation about how Nigeria can be governed better.

The Foundation has extended a warm invitation to government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, professionals, the clergy, civil society organisations, students, the media and members of the public.
