Officials of the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), at the weekend, sealed the premises of a suspected gas plant under construction in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State.
The
plant, The Guardian gathered, is situated in a densely populated area in
Amauzari Street, Ikenegbu Extension Lay Out (near Relief Market), Owerri
metropolis.
Concerned
residents around the area had taken to their social media handles to alert the
nation about the “time bomb and its likely effect on human life.”
After
sealing the premises until further investigations are carried out, a resident,
told The Guardian that the action of the government has relaxed their minds.
He
said: “This shows that the state government is responsive to cries of the people.”
Tdpnewsng.com could not get across to the owner at press time, as he was said to be
away at an undisclosed location.
An
official of the OCDA, however, noted that the agency would ensure suspected
intent to wrongly locate such dangerous commodities is not actualised.
