AFCON SEMI FINALS: Nigeria High Commission In South Africa Alerts Nigerian Residents Of Impending Attack On Them If Nigeria Defeats SA

The Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa has alerted Nigerians residing in that country of impending attack on Nigerians by a section of South African citizens who plan to visit them with deadly attack should Super Eagles of Nigeria defeats Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi final of 2024 AFCON on Wednesday.

Contained in a message from the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Pretoria, South Africa titled "Advisory on Safe Conduct for Nigerians on South Africa before, during and after the Semi final Match between Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana", the attention of the High Commission of Nigeria in Pretoria has been drawn to potentially inflammatory online comments made by a section of South African citizens against Nigerians living in host country.

"Most of the comments consist of veiled threats against 'Nigerians cooking jollof rice' before the match and 'showing pepper' to Nigerians if Bafana Bafana lose to Super Eagles among other things.

"In this regard, the High Commission advises the Nigerian community to be watchful of their utterances, be mindful of where they choose to watch the match especially on public places, and refrain from engaging in loud, riotous or provocative celebrations should the Super Eagles win the match," the statement said.

The High Commission finally, advised Nigerians resident in South Africa to maintain the good conduct they are known for, and be law abiding, before, during and after the match, reminding them not to reciprocate any attack rather to report to the appropriate authorities.
