To sustain traction as a select institution with some of its lecturers being Master Trainers, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri has braced up to its new status as the foremost, critical specialized institution in the South East for the training of manpower in various education disciplines.
Following a Master Trainers workshop collaboratively sponsored by Universal Basic Education (UBEC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) held recently at Ilorin, Kwara state on the New One Year Curriculum attended by some staff of the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, it commenced cascading workshops at two educational zones of Imo state on the rich deliverables by training teachers in the zones.
At the training centres at Anara, Isiala Mbano in Okigwe Zone, Nguru in Aboh Mbaise in Mbaise Zone, Owerri in Owerri Zone, Dr. Mrs. Chioma Njoku and other selected members of the Department, including Dr. Nkechi Ewunonu took turns in deepening the primary teachers on aspects of the New One Year curriculum.
The exercise which has the objective of improving the knowledge of the teachers will subsequently impact on the students and ensure they become very conversant with the demands of twenty first century teaching and learning.
Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education is one of the former state Colleges of Education taken over by the Federal government which has enhanced quality of the institutions including various updates the various departments have been undergoing. AIFUE has also witnessed the introduction of many new courses at both degree and post graduate levels.
