Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that the momentum behind his presidential ambition has faded since the last election, insisting that his support base has continued to grow as more Nigerians become dissatisfied with the country's current situation.
Speaking during an interview, Obi rejected suggestions that the enthusiasm that characterised his 2023 campaign had diminished, despite the Labour Party's poor performance in subsequent elections in Anambra State.
He argued that state elections should not be used to measure the strength of a presidential movement, maintaining that the dynamics are different.
"If anything, my followership has increased because those who jumped into what they called an experimental thing, believing it would create a better future, have now seen that the whole thing was a mess," Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that growing public disappointment with the country's economic and governance challenges has strengthened support for his vision, expressing confidence that more Nigerians now identify with his message of competent and accountable leadership.
